We met up with Margo in the Legendary J.M. Capriola saddle shop in Elko, Nevada.

Margo had this to say:

  • I'm from the suburbs of San Francisco. My grandfather lived in Humboldt County, and he taught me about growing food, raising poultry, bee-keeping. My grandmother taught me the music part.
  • When I started traveling around in my 20s, I found that farms and ranches were places where I could show up able-bodied and they’d give me a job, even knowing I’d be hitting the road again soon to chase my musical dreams. I loved that symbiosis.
  • When I met my husband Forrest, I followed him up to eastern Oregon. He was working as a packer at the time, so I just jumped in alongside him wherever I could. Soon he was dayworking around that area, and I saw how each family put their unique spin on ranching.
  • I’ve been doing that ever since, whether its driving along to help feed, working cattle, helping during lambing season, watching kids or singing Amazing Grace when it’s called for. Just being neighborly.
  • I try to play a small part in keeping the stories of the West alive; like sharing a song like MC Horses with audiences around the world.
