Heres a little Canadian mountain step dance jam with my friends! https://talise.lnk.to/countrybluespresave 🪕🏔️
My new single Country Blues is gonna be out on October 25th! Recorded this one live off the floor with some buds.
Canadian step dancing is a percussive dance style rooted in the traditions of French, Irish, Scottish, and Indigenous cultures, brought together in the cultural melting pot of early Canada. Closely related to Appalachian flatfooting, it developed in rural areas—especially Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritimes—where fiddling and informal kitchen parties were central to community life.
- Regional styles emerged, such as the French Canadian (Québécois), Ottawa Valley, and Cape Breton styles, each with distinct footwork and rhythm.
The dance emphasizes rhythmic foot tapping to fiddle music, often performed solo, and continues to be passed down through festivals, competitions, and folk schools.
