Devour Music

1. VOCES8 sings 'Effortlessly' by Taylor Scott Davis at the VOCES8 Centre in London.
2. Taylor is VOCES8's new Composer in Residence, and Effortlessly is a meditation on divine love, taken from his larger work written for the group, 'To Sing of Love.'

Set to words by Mechthild of Magdeburg, this work contemplates the flow of love between creation and Creator, where all things move in harmony.

• 'Effortlessly' unfolds in luminous stillness, inviting the listener into a sound world where breath, grace, and unity become one.

TEXT by Mechthild of Magdeburg

1. Effortlessly,
Love flows from God into man,
   Like a bird
   Who rivers the air
   Without moving her wings.
2. Thus we move in His world
   One in body and soul,
   Though outwardly separate in form.
3. As the Source strikes the note,
   Humanity sings —
The Holy Spirit is our harpist,
   And all strings
   Which are touched in Love
   Must sound.
