Max Richter – Andante / Reflection (End Title) | Arr. for Piano Solo This is my interpretation of Andante / Reflection (End Title) by Max Richter, originally composed for the 2008 animated documentary Waltz with Bashir, directed by Ari Folman. The film explores memory, trauma, and the psychological aftermath of the 1982 Lebanon War, told through a haunting, dreamlike animated style. Richter’s score plays a crucial role in creating that atmosphere — and this final piece closes the film with quiet emotional intensity. Interestingly, Andante / Reflection is not entirely an original composition — it is closely based (or arguably completely lifted) from the Andantino of Franz Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 20 in A Major, D. 959. Richter reworks Schubert’s Romantic textures into his signature minimalist style, slowing the harmonic rhythm and paring it down to its emotional essence. *Max Richter is a German-born British composer and pianist, working within post-minimalist and contemporary classical styles. He is classically trained, having studied composition at the University of Edinburgh, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and under Luciano Berio in Italy.
