Chainsaw Man Piano Project 2025: Part 2 IRIS OUT It’s great to see Kenshi Yonezu deliver another banger after his viral hit KICK BACK in 2022. Interestingly, the rhythmic pulse and chord progression in IRIS OUT reminded me of the famous Russian folk song Korobeiniki (a.k.a. the Tetris theme). Fun fact: the original folk song is actually about a meeting between a man and a woman — which makes it surprisingly fitting for the Reze arc movie. As a result, this piano arrangement ended up with a bit of “Tetris energy” blended into it. ● “Darling, Baby, Darling…” (1:00) This section uses an advanced technique inspired by Chopin’s Étude Op. 10 No. 2: the right hand plays chromatic lines while holding chord shapes at the same time. It’s basically a mini-etude hidden inside the arrangement, and it fits naturally with the “Darling… darling…” rhythm - adding a small inner melody while keeping the syncopation of the original song intact. ● Rap rhythm, classical answer (1:13) The rap part was easily the hardest to translate for piano. I kept the rhythmic character but transformed the line as a classical-style melody with a new chord progression to make it sing better on the piano. This is also where the Tetris influence is strongest - you might even hear tiny fragments of the theme hidden inside. ● Denji’s accelerating inner conflict (1:50) This might be a new speed record among my arrangements. I tried to imitate the chaotic piano synths from the original track, then expanded the solo with chord clusters for extra impact. It almost sounds like the piano is about to spin out of control - which fits the frantic energy of IRIS OUT perfectly. All Denji ever wanted was a peaceful life… poor guy. With that said, I’m just happy I found a satisfying solution for the rap section again. It seems every rap part has a classical music answer somewhere, if you search long enough. Part 3 of my Chainsaw Man Piano Arrangement Project will be JANE DOE (Yonezu Kenshi + Utada Hikaru), the movie’s ED theme. And if you haven’t seen it yet, please also enjoy Part 1: “in the pool”.
