Long celebrated for his iconoclasm and forays into jazz, Gulda here returns to Mozart, a composer he revered above all others, with disarming directness and intensity. From the darkly improvisatory Fantasia in D minor to the radiant Sonata in F major and the storm-tossed C-minor works, his playing unites intellectual clarity with rare spontaneity, reminding us that behind the provocateur stood one of Mozart’s most truthful interpreters.
