Mirella Freni - Puccini: Madama Butterfly: "Un bel dì vedremo"
Watch Mirella Freni sing this poignant aria, where her character, Butterfly, continues to refuse to believe that she has been abandoned by the American naval officer, Pinkerton.
As Suzuki, her faithful maid and only confidante, tries gently to lead her back to reality, Butterfly answers with this aria: a radiant vision of the day Pinkerton's ship will finally appear in Nagasaki harbor, and he will climb the hill to call her name. The aria is both hope and self-persuasion, poised between dream and reality.
