Puccini: La Fanciulla del West, Act III: "Ch'ella mi creda libero e lontano"
Watch tenor Roberto Aronica sing this Act III aria from Puccini's La Fanciulla del West in a production from Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, in 2017.
Dick Johnson (Roberto Aronica) — the outlaw Ramerrez, whom Minnie has loved and saved — has been captured and is about to be hanged by the miners. At this final moment, he does not beg for his life. Instead, in this aria "Ch'ella mi creda libero e lontano" (Let her believe that I am free and far away) he asks only that Minnie, the woman who risked everything for him, believe he is free.
