coulou's cafe trumpet meditations (no. 34)
Hello friends, sending lots of love out to everybody. I hope you and your loved ones are all safe.
I am currently in New York, but I was born and raised in SoCal and the LA fires have hit incredibly close to home.
I am really blessed to say my family and friends are all safe, but so many people I know have lost their homes.
I am grateful there's been so few deaths during such a catastrophic fire, but you see people losing everything and the grief is just devastating.
Your home is your shelter, big or small, within those walls is yours.
In these difficult times though, I am always reminded of the greater, deeper sense of humanity we have between each other.
I've seen so many people drop everything to help their neighbors, open their home to strangers, and give what they can to feed people and put clothes on their back.
A reminder that we are so much more than the things that divide us.
Even the little things that are lost in a home, items people won't have time to think of until the dust really settles, breaks my heart too.
The photos of your parents you never found the time to scan, your kids' first art project, a grandfather's watch, letters from a friend who's since passed.
Small proofs of life that someone you loved did in fact exist.
I know there's thousands of different worthy places to donate to, but here are a few people/places that I know really need any help they can get at the moment:
- Help the Twomey Family Recover from Eaton Fires
- A Legacy Lost but Not Forgotten
- Rebuild Grandfather's Home After Fire Loss
- Fire Relief - Whitney and Ethan's Story
- Help the Norris Family Rebuild After Losing Home in LA Fires
I've been really fortunate to be upstate in a cabin working on music, getting a moment to clear my head and get into this new year with a little more presence.
