When I was developing the JGM guitar, the toughest bit was putting together one simple pickup system that could do everything: Hear the entire instrument, and reproduce every sound the acoustic guitar could possibly ever make.
It had taken me 25 years of experimenting to achieve, with guitars full of pickups, wires, batteries.
I'm thankful for Fishman, who delivered a solution that I'd been searching for. The Fishman Rare Earth Mic Blend combines a magnetic humbucker for clarity, power and warmth, and a condenser microphone for natural air and realism, and percussive response.
The PowerTap sensor added a new element to this system, delivering that third dimension, including endlessly deep rich bass but - miraculously - with no feedback.
With the PowerTap Earth Pro, you have three elements: magnetic, mic and sensor. These can be mixed together using two blend-wheels hidden within easy reach inside your guitar.
- You can mix the three elements together.
- You can split the three elements, and connect them to separate channels on your amp, mixer or interface.
This is the dream!
I'm honored that Fishman have decided to release this as a standalone product. As my signature pickup system, I hope people love playing with it, experimenting to find sounds they never imagined.
Don't panic guitar nerds - I'll make a full breakdown demo of the pickup system soon.
