This piece is all about the questions we ask ourselves during lonely moments... It's not about the hope of seeing someone we love again, but instead is about those feelings we have when we are alone, maybe sitting in a darkened room, and the night is so still it gives us shivers. Almost every measure of this piece has "open" harmony in the left hand... neither major nor minor... no obviously joyful moments, no anguish either... but wandering and lonely thoughts brought on by the emptiness of missing someone we love.
