Jonathan Stout Orchestra - Calbal 2025 - Original Contest Tune 1 - "Sorta Dukish"
Important Update from Jonathan Stout:
I've been a bit quieter on this channel since December, but I was busy prepping to lead my big band, the Jonathan Stout Orchestra, at two national swing dance events: Lindy Focus in Asheville, NC, and the California Balboa Classic, here in Los Angeles.
As part of Calbal, I was commissioned to write and arrange NINE original compositions for the marquis contest. Given the timing of these events back-to-back, I had to quickly clear my schedule and spend two weeks writing each song. So all 9 tunes were written between January 2nd and 24th, with a week lost to dealing with evacuating due to the Eaton Fire.
Introducing "Sorta Dukish", a spotlight for finalists Hannah Manning and Jonathan Ng, inspired by Duke Ellington. You can follow the California Balboa Classic for the complete contest, as well as my introductions to each tune.
