These sessions show the early stages of getting various ideas down for the album. My preferred method is to record rough takes, listen back and then think of melodies/phrases/ideas in my head without the guitar in my hands.
It gets me out of thinking in boxes (pentatonic) and allows me to come up with lines that I may not have thought of from noodling on the guitar.
It's a vital aspect to my writing sessions, and has helped me come up with countless different ideas that I would not have thought of otherwise.
Give it a try next time you're writing. Record your rough ideas, listen back and see where you want it to go in your head rather than relying solely on the guitar.
